Days 94 & 95: 14th and 15th September 2017

Thursday

I woke early to hear AJ padding around upstairs so went to join him as he said he wanted to watch the sun rise with me. It was lovely to snuggle up on the sofa and watch the sky change colour. The house has a stunning view which we feel privileged to experience.

After breakfast we got on with school. I decided to take a different approach and do French and History first and then follow with Maths and English which often provoke argument from at least one child. The other advantage of this is that the French and History are things we do as a family together, so if we start these first there is no waiting for the other child to finish maths or whatever before we start. Todays French was about families and the kids engaged well with it. I've gone back to using Twinkl Planit lessons which provide a powerpoint as well as activities and worksheets. Next we started our "Story of the World" audio book and activity book. It is a series of 4 books which tell the story of the world from early nomads to something significantly more recent. The activity book is great as it gives a list of questions for each part of the recording to check for understanding as well as some activity sheets which we photocopy as well as lots of other suggestions to extend learning. Todays section was an introductory one learning what history actually is. It talked a lot about our own history and talking to parents and grandparents about their life. We extended this by making our own family tree on post it notes stuck to the floor. The kids found it really interesting, not only from a history point of view but by understanding the relationships between the different members of our family.

We spent the afternoon at the beach and then ended the day with spag bol, or something approximating spag bol as there is very little in the store cupboard here and I forgot to buy stock cubes or anything to flavour it with. Ended up finding some "couscous spice" which appeared to have some mix of Moroccan spices in which I added to the mix. It didn't much taste like Bolognese but it was quite pleasant! We spent much of the evening playing telephone tennis with Matthew from DMS. He left us a message about the surveyors visit to Laurin but unfortunately the reception wasn't too good so we would have to wait for tomorrow for a better update.

Friday

Keen to get in touch with Matthew we got breakfast out of the way and started trying to get in touch in between school work. We finally managed to catch him at about 11am and things are looking like we might be back in the water before the end of the month which is fantastic news but still leaves us with the question of if this is early enough for us to get to Sicily for winter.

We again went to the beach and then on our return Esmé played with her new friend from the house across the car park. We had a lovely meal of "Volcanoes" (thanks Lynita!).

Lastly we continued our engine building project: Pistons into engine block and started to assemble the valves.
