Friday 7th September - Cagliari Museums
The kids had worked hard on Thursday to "earn" a day out some museums on Friday (we knew that we might be moving on Saturday) so were eagerly awaiting a day out. After a late breakfast and time for me to update the blog we eventually set off rather late. We decided to walk along the front into town and then up to the museum however it was actually quite a long walk, particularly as the last half was up a really steep hill. By the time we were half way up AJ was decidedly unimpressed and Esmé had blisters.... it had been a long time since we'd worn anything other than flip flops! In desperation I suggested backtracking slightly to find a plasters and possibly some socks before having lunch and then going on to the museums. AJ accompanied me to find socks while Patrick stuck nearly a whole packet of plasters to Esme's feet. Of course we hadn't been to a city centre for weeks so AJ was in his element dragging me to show me random items of clothing he wanted whilst I desperately searched for a pair of socks for E. In the end we came away with some very expensive socks and a hat for AJ.
We then headed for another all you can eat sushi place which was an extravagance which we all enjoyed except perhaps for the slow service... I think this is a feature of these kinds of places.... they think that if the service slows down you will leave rather than order more food.... not us!!!!
Even Esmé who normally eats very little tucked into spring rolls, tempura chicken on sticks and chips while Patrick and I enjoyed plate after plate of sushi.
Once we were full to bursting we waddled up the hill again, this time taking the opportunity to admire the views.
Once at the museum we felt glad that we had paused for lunch as the anatomical museum was closed until 4pm. We headed into the Archaeological Museum to kill some time as it was pouring with rain by this time. Here we admired the traditional Sardinian costumes as well as the artefacts found on the island. The kids had fun with the interactive screens showing them 3D animations of buildings excavated on Sardinia and were impressed by the physical models of some of the artefacts that were put out for them to hold and touch.
AJ was particularly interested in how our noses and mouths are joined.
And both were fascinated by the model showing a baby in its mother's womb.
We then headed back down the hill to a marina much closer to the town centre to meet the crew of Hullabaloo, another kid boat, this time with 2 boys on board much to AJ's delight. We spent a while chatting before agreeing to move on to Carloforte the next day along with the guys we had met the previous night.
Back to the boat via the supermarket for me, and the petrol station for Patrick and then an early night ready for a 4am alarm call.
Saturday 8th September 2018 - Passage to Carloforte
An early start as it was a 65 mile passage with the possibility of very strong winds on the nose for the last 10 miles. We always prefer to leave in the dark rather than risk arriving in a new port at night. In the end it was a calm and very uneventful motor with only a short period of motor sailing which gave us an extra half a knot of speed.
Once in the kids had a fantastic time as there were 7 boat kids on the same pontoon! Just like back in Ragusa again, the kids disappeared and we didn't see them again for a couple of hours! Drinks on Tatsu turned into an impromptu pasta and pizza dinner and very soon it was 11pm and time for bed.
